This holy card of Saint Ildephonsus features the artwork of El Greco with highlights of his life and the prayer he composed to the Blessed Virgin Mary on the back.
During his life in the 7th century, St. Ildephonsus, a pious Benedictine abbot, went on to be elected Archbishop of Toledo, much to the joy of the clergy and people there. He composed a prayer to Our Lady, who he greatly loved, to be recited daily. When a falsehood sprang up in his diocese belittling the Perpetual Virginity of the Mother of God, he soundly defeated that heresy with a treatise as well as warning his flock against the falsehood.
